How To Be An Effective Content Curator
As someone who is fairly new to the world of social media, I have spent a great deal of time reading, researching and bookmarking any and all information I find useful and pertinent. In learning the ropes of effective networking, I know that it is necessary to share that information on different social network platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Google+. I’ve learned that when you become the bearer of good and useful information, people will come. It was only recently that I heard the term “Content Curator” but that is essentially what I feel I have become in my quest to reach a broader audience in the social media world. Content curation is a great way to make yourself known as a valuable source of information and it can do wonders for your marketing efforts as well. So how does one become an effective content curator? I’ve come up with a list of ideas that can make your ability to curate content more effectively: Find your niche. There is so much information on the Internet that it is imperative that you decide what type of audience you are trying to attract. This will help you to decide what type of content you are going to read and ultimately allow you to focus your efforts in one or two key areas and share information that is engaging to your audience. Be prepared to put in the time. Recognize that content curation is a long-term social media strategy. You can’t become an overnight reliable and trusted source of information. Be prepared to do the work. To be a truly effective content curator, you must be prepared to read each article all the way through. What we repost if a direct reflection on who we are and what we stand for. Always curate content of impeccable quality. Be consistent. One of the biggest challenges, in both content curation and social media itself, is consistency. If you want people to show up everyday, you have to be there, as well. Understand the social platforms you will be using for your content curation. If you are using Twitter, you need to understand the concepts of hashtags, mentions and retweeting. For Facebook, understand the concept of sharing and with whom you will be sharing with. Finding and Sharing Great Content: Most significant for a master content curator is finding and sharing great content. Set up searches in Google Reader and Google Alerts for your niche topics and keywords, read to subscribed daily blogs, identify trends, find breaking news and most importantly, be open to different points of view. Content curation is the process of sorting through the vast amounts of information of content on the web and sharing it with others in some sort of meaningful way. An effective content curator continuously seeks, makes sense of and shares the most relevant and useful information with his or her followers. I’ve listed my ideas on how to make this process a bit more efficient and effective. What are yours?
